This agreement combines the companies’ respective expertise in technology design and project development to offer innovative and custom solutions for growing energy demand.
Bellevue, WA – February 12, 2025 – Today, TerraPower, LLC, a nuclear innovation company, and nVision Energy, LLC, an affiliate of utility-scale energy project developer, NOVI Energy, announced an agreement to establish a framework for a repeatable deployment model for developing Natrium reactor and energy storage system plants across the United States. This framework aims to combine nVision Energy’s proven expertise in energy project development and TerraPower’s cutting-edge Natrium technology with the intention of meeting burgeoning energy demand with advanced nuclear power and built-in, grid-scale energy storage.
TerraPower broke ground on America’s first advanced nuclear project in 2024, in the historic energy producing community of Kemmerer, Wyoming; and the Natrium reactor is the only advanced nuclear technology with a construction permit application for a commercial reactor pending with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The nVision Energy team has decades of experience developing large energy projects and has spent years developing custom solutions to meet the energy needs of utilities, hyperscalers, and communities.
“The energy industry is changing rapidly, and new technologies must be commercialized and deployed to keep up with both growing energy demand and an electric grid that will function completely differently in the coming decades. The Natrium technology is the only solution that offers baseload and flexible energy production with its integrated energy storage, and I look forward to exploring innovative deployment strategies with nVision Energy and their experienced team,” said Chris Levesque, TerraPower President and CEO.
“For the past two years, the nVision team has been dedicated to combining a unique set of skills and resources to bring new Small Modular Reactor (SMR) / Advanced Reactor (AR) plants to fruition,” said nVision Energy’s President and CEO, Anand Gangadharan. “Our developer-led approach, powered by TerraPower’s advanced Natrium reactor technology, and structured financing, is built on a well-considered plan that manages implementation risks. This agreement will be a key driver in increasing baseload carbon-free electric capacity and strengthening of the American power grid.”
The Natrium technology is the first mover in the U.S. advanced nuclear industry and features a 345 MW sodium-cooled fast reactor with a patented molten salt-based energy storage system. The storage technology can boost the system’s output to 500 MW of power when needed and can be customized to match specific site needs. The energy storage system is designed to keep base output steady, ensuring constant reliability, and can quickly ramp up when demand peaks — it is the only advanced reactor design with this unique feature, and is well suited to meet the power demands of utilities, industrial consumers, and data centers.
With a diverse range of expertise drawn directly from the nuclear industry, the nVision team specializes in complex project management and brings a variety of capabilities in the areas of risk management, design and engineering, licensing, structuring, financing, construction management, operations, and asset management. This team has an unparalleled and unique combination of many decades of energy project development experience with a team that has had direct hands-on civil and US navy nuclear experience. nVision believes in and focuses on partnering relationships to deliver quality focused, timely, and cost-effective solutions with safety as a primary priority. This enables them to deliver extraordinary value to their customers and communities, ensuring the best possible projects are brought to life with unmatched efficiency and excellence.
