Director of Environment, Safety, Health and Quality
Rick Sutter has more than 30 years of experience in nuclear quality assurance, field engineering, and systems completion and turnover for both U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and Nuclear Regulatory Commission regulated projects. He joined TerraPower in September 2013.
Prior to joining the company, Sutter was a nuclear quality assurance consultant working with new and returning suppliers to the nuclear industry in the development of their NQA-1 compliant quality assurance programs and procedures. During this time, Sutter spent considerable time in a quality assurance advisory capacity on-site at the Shaw Modular Solutions (now CBI Services) facility in Lake Charles, La., where modules for the Westinghouse AP-1000 nuclear facilities are being manufactured for shipment to nuclear construction projects in Georgia and South Carolina.
Sutter’s background also includes work on eight nuclear power plant construction projects in the United States, and work at DOE’s Hanford projects in Washington state. Sutter served as manager of supplier quality for the Waste Treatment Plant Project, a nuclear waste vitrification plant managed by Bechtel National, Inc. where first of a kind technologies have been developed, including those that required resurrection of the U.S. nuclear supplier base. In this role, Sutter led an organization of approximately 60 quality assurance and quality control professionals responsible for the development and quality oversight of over 200 NQA-1-qualified suppliers.
Sutter holds a Bachelor of Science in political science and sociology from the University of New York, and a Master of Arts in organizational management from the University of Phoenix.
